New MacBook Pro
As expected, Apple released new MacBook Pro models on Thursday, (February 24, 2011) 2/24/2011. There are five new systems: two 13-inch models, two 15-inch models, and one 17-inch model. The MacBook Pro lineup is usually refreshed approximately once a year. For the year 2011, consumers are treated to an upgrade in processor selections as well as an introduction to a new Thunderbolt input/output port. These two changes are the most notable and most talked about. Another significant change is the switch from NVIDIA to AMD graphics on the high-end MacBook Pro models, starting with base 15-inch MacBook Pro model and moving up.
Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs boasts of performance of up to two times faster than the previous generation of Intel CPUs. The Thunderbolt port is 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than the conventional USB 2.0 port.
Graphics have also been improved across the board. All MacBook Pro models have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 controller card. This integrated graphics solution works with the Sandy Bridge chipset to deliver good graphics while improving on battery conservation. On the high-end models, the ones that are distinguished by their quad-core processors, systems are outfitted with an AMD discrete graphics solution, that delivers three times the graphics performance of the previous MacBook models.
Truly, the new MacBook Pro lineup mark another great upgrade and evolution for Apple laptops. These models keep the trend of delivering quality-made machines while exciting consumers with innovative performance technologies.
